‘The Aviator’ – Imagine a Life without Limits

For some men, the sky was the limit. For him, it was just the beginning….

He saw the future. He lived the dream.

While Oscar buzz is still in the air and we feel particularly inspired by big screen movies, we’ve decided to tell you a bit about one special film, one of our favourites, we might add – not only for its Oscar awards record, but also because of its incredibly inspiring and impeccably presented true story with a rich sense of period detail.

An epic biographical drama about legendary Howard Hughes directed by infamous Martin Scorsese, starring persuasive as ever Leonardo DiCaprio won over millions of hearts! Story depicts Hughes’ career path unveiling the truth about his mental illness and unaltered obsession about airplanes. Genius and eccentric, Howard tests his limits, changes the world and eventually reminisces about his past…

Exciting life story of aviation pioneer was inspired by the book ‘Howard Hughes: Hell’s Angel’ by Charles Higham.

According to the official production notes, DiCaprio even learned how to fly Hughes’ “daredevil” aerial maneuvers. Now that’s some dedication to the process (which Leo is actually very well-known for).

Besides striking special effects, amazing costumes (rumored to cost $2 million at least), breathtaking aerial panoramas, gorgeous airplanes, the movie also boast a magnificent cast, featuring Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, Jude Law, Alec Baldwin, Gwen Stefani, Alan Alda among others.

Nicole Kidman was originally considered for the role of Katharine Hepburn. But when the start date was delayed, Cate Blanchett became available after starring in The Missing (2003). Martin Scorsese admitted later that Blanchett had always been his first choice.

Gwyneth Paltrow was initially signed on to portrait Ava Gardner, but eventually dropped out. She was therefore replaced with Kate Beckinsale at the last moment.

‘The Aviator’ was nominated for eleven (talk about “flying high”) Academy Awards, and went on to win five, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Actress in a supporting role.

How about this amazing movie for a cozy weekend evening?

To inspire you even more we’ll leave the official movie trailer here 😉

11 facts about Formula-1 you didn’t know about

0

Latest Formula 1 Grand Prix for the first time in history took place in Saudi Arabia. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the race in Jeddah. Well done, Lewis! Today we’ve decided to share 11 facts about Formula 1 that you didn’t know about.

1) The first F-1 race took place in Monaco in 1929 (not long left before the celebration of the centenary!)

2) The word “formula” in the title is not accidental, because all participating cars must comply with strict regulations of the race.

3) The average weight of the car is about 700 kg.

4) And here’s the average cost… about €13 million. And this is just a finished car, without all the investment in research, engineering and design.

5) Riders experience 5G during the race, 5 times exceeding their own weight. That’s even higher than overload of astronauts during rocket launch (3-4G).

6) The temperature in the cockpit during the race reaches 50˚.

7) On average, a pilot loses about 3-4 kg during the race.

8) Pilot crews manage to refuel the car and change tires in a record time of 3 seconds. Tslk about the speed of light!

9) Same equipment as for refueling helicopters is used – 12 liters of fuel per second.

10) Downforce keeps a racing car on the road, otherwise it would just…take off into the air. A few numbers just to prove the point – world record for vertical pressure on the car was a set on 3,000 kg at a speed of 276 km/h (Mercedes W11 record at Silverstone 2020).

11) Before the race takes place, all hatches are welded to the ground in Monaco, so they don’t fly into the air due to aerodynamic forces.

3) The fastest plane in the world
This prestigious title was awarded to the X-43A hypersonic aircraft. During testing the drone reached a speed of 11,230 km / h – 9 times faster than the speed of sound.

4) Airport with the highest air traffic
For London’s Heathrow runway traffic is a usual thing. This airport boasts the highest density of air traffic in Europe – every 45 seconds a plane takes off there.

Oh, honey!

0

Most people may think of honey as just a sweetening substance, but it is much more than that. It is a truly unique product of nature. It is rich in nutrients, aroma and taste, and above all, offers many benefits to our body.

There are many types of honey, and many differences between them too. There is flower honey with pollen residues, while honey from coniferous trees is rich in minerals. Nectar-derived honeys are light in colour and weight and crystallize, while honeydew honeys are dark in color and crystallize less. Also, in terms of its chemical composition, flower honeys have a higher percentage of glucose and fructose than honey from coniferous trees.

At our stores you will find honey from both of the above categories as well as others, unique in their kind. Specifically, you will find honey from flowers, from wildflowers, from acacia, from orange blossoms, from thyme, forest honey, from chestnut, from pine, from fir, from oak, and from arbutus.

Apart from these, you will also find: honey with honeycomb, with propolis, with pollen, with almonds, with hazelnuts, with peanuts, with carob, and also the unique Manuka honey (10+, 15+, 20+, 25+ UMF) from New Zealand.

The Gallery 45 is a new contemporary art and design exhibition space launching in the heart of Limassol’s old town.

It has set its sight on exhibiting contemporary artists from both the local and international stage while also introducing

emerging artists and designers to the Cyprus art scene. Its founder is Sanaz Nazemi Agha and is currently collaborating

with Athens-based artistic duo collaboration Blaqk, aka Simek and Greg Papagrigoriou as well as local Larnaca-based

artist Elena Tsigaridou.

The Gallery 45 presents The Parallel Project featuring internationally renowned Cypriot furniture and product designer,

Moussaris, together with Athens-based visual artists Anastasia Papaleonida-Pountza, DonForty and Robert Seikon

for their debut exhibition in Cyprus from the 20th of November till the 22nd of December.

Mousarris’ mind-bending conceptual furniture and surreal functional art objects are all handmade, blending industrial

technology with organic handcraft. His works are proudly on permanent display at the 21st Century Design Wing

of the Louvre in Paris.

With a client base spanning major international collectors, architects, Hollywood notables and featuring in over 40

reputable design magazines, and recently he’s been awarded 2021 silver A’ Design award, 33-year-old Larnaca-based

Stelios Mousarris is undoubtedly a talent to watch.

Mousarris will present a curated installation of limited edition pieces along with the international launch of an exclusive

piece designed for the Gallery 45 in his first-ever local exhibition.

Anastasia Papaleonida-Pountza is based in Athens where she studied Visual Communication. Best known for her

paintings, murals and art installations using different mediums such as plaster, clay, ink, paper, fabric and wood, her

more recent works play with the repetition of abstract and dynamic forms to create calm yet chaotic artworks full of

movement and texture. Her works can be found in industrial spaces in Greece, as she works to interact the place with

the space and the building itself while often deriving influences from the elements that surround it.

DonForty aka Evangelos Sarantaris is a Greek visual artist based between Valencia and Athens, where he studied

Graphic Design and has been working mainly with murals, illustration and paintings. As an active street artist since

2002, his works of art consist of installations inspired by simple materials found on the streets.

His maximalist designs, with intricate hand-drawn lines battling for space amongst intense touches and improvised

drippings adorn walls, spaces and galleries in several countries across Europe.

Robert Seikon is a Polish visual artist based in Greece. Having graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Gdansk,

Poland, his work focuses on contemporary and abstract paintings, murals and sculptures. Exhibiting internationally since 1999, his style has evolved and his interests have focused mainly on geometry and lines and in particular his play with parallel lines and colour. Seikon specialises in creating unique geometric patterns that have the power to transform a surface through the use of colour and design.
