The group paintings of classical Spanish or Flemish painters have always intrigued me. I try to figure out how they are composed, or how light moves through the image, stronger in one part and softer and darker in others. In my work, I like to find symmetry, but symmetry can be more than just the balance of subjects on both sides. You can also achieve it by creating movement that travels from one side to the other, just like in the classical paintings. I did this picture for @VogueSpain with the Editor-in-Chief Yolanda Sacristan, paying homage to the Spanish Tomatina festival. I wanted to recreate the festival feeling, with the girls in red as if they had been hit by too many tomatoes. We had to make sure that absolutely no tomatoes touched the dresses. Very difficult! We had to do it all in one single shot. The guys moving around, covered in tomatoes, and the girls standing perfectly still but keeping this amazing energy. You can see the image as part of the permanent collection @MuseoMATE. – #NatashaPoly #EvaHerzigova #VogueSpain #MarioTestino
