Taycan – Cayenne Plug-in hybrid – Macan GTS

Porsche Center Cyprus organized a Press Test Drive Day on the 21st of July 2020. Members of the Press had the chance to drive three legendary Porsche models that had recently arrived in Cyprus. The first ever electric Porsche, the Taycan, the Cayenne Plug-in Hybrid and the sportiest Porsche Macan GTS.

Porsche Taycan

The Taycan is the first ever fully electric Porsche. This four door sport saloon offers incredible Porsche performance and connectivity on a daily basis while the unique production methods and the Taycan characteristics set the bar to new heights of sustainability and digitization. With its clean, puristic design, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. From the front it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear. There are also innovative elements such as, the glass-effect Porsche logo, which has been integrated into the light bar at the rear.

The first models in the new series are the Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range.   The Taycan has two exceptionally efficient electric engines, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, thus making the cars all-wheel drive. Both the range and the continuous power of the drive benefit from the high efficiency of the permanently excited synchronous machines. The two-speed transmission installed on the rear axle is an innovation developed by Porsche. First gear gives the Taycan even more acceleration from a standing start, while second gear with a long gear ratio ensures high efficiency and equally high power reserves. This also applies at very high speeds.

The cockpit signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and a completely new architecture. The freestanding, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. This places a clear focus on the driver axis. A central, 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look.

Porsche Cayenne Plug-in hybrid

Porsche is expanding its range of hybrids even further: the new Cayenne Plug-in Hybrid combines the best driving dynamics in its class with maximum efficiency. A three-litre V6 engine (340 hp) combines with an electric engine (100 kW/136 hp) to generate system power of (462 hp). The maximum torque of 700 Nm is already available just above idling speed; the boost strategy matches that of the 918 Spyder supercar. The Cayenne’s Plug-in Hybrid drive enables acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.0 seconds and a maximum speed of 253 kilometres per hour. The new Cayenne Plug-in Hybrid can drive up to a distance of 443 kilometres and speed of 135 kilometres per hour on electricity alone. The average consumption in the New European Drive Cycle (NEDC), depending on the set of tires used, is 3.4 – 3.2 l/100 km of fuel and 20.9 – 20.6 kWh/100 km of electricity. Alongside the launch of the Cayenne Plug-in Hybrid, Porsche is expanding its range of comfort and assistance systems for the entire Cayenne series with additional options such as the new head-up display, massage seats and 22-inch light metal wheels. Battery capacity has improved significantly in the Cayenne Plug-in Hybrid, along with the distance on electricity and the boost reserves: in comparison to the previous model, capacity increased from 10.8 to 14.1 kWh. The charging process can be managed and monitored via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and remotely using the Porsche Connect app. The transmission acquires the new Tiptronic S, newly developed for the entire Cayenne range with eight speeds. The automatic gearbox not only offers even more comfortable and smoother starting but also significantly speeds up switching. Interruption of tractive force during switching processes has also been reduced further.

Porsche Macan GTS

Porsche completes the Macan series with a distinctly sporty model. The new Macan GTS launches with a powerful engine, performance-oriented chassis, characteristic design and enhanced equipment. The 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine delivers 380PS – an increase of 20 PS compared with the predecessor model. Combined with the newly adapted PDK dual-clutch transmission and the optional Sport Chrono package, the Macan GTS can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, three tenths faster than before. It has a top speed of 261 km/h.

Among other things, the new member of Porsche’s compact SUV family has earned the abbreviation GTS, which stands for “Gran Turismo Sport”, due to its outstanding driving dynamics. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system has been specially tuned. The chassis has also been lowered by 15 millimetres for greater lateral dynamics. Adaptive air suspension is optionally available with chassis lowering by a further 10 millimetres. Combined with the standard 20-inch RS Spyder

The new Macan GTS also emphasises its exceptional sporty status visually. The standard Sport Design package with new front and rear trim and striking side skirts lends the car a characteristic appearance. The front apron and front section are characterized by black painted elements – a distinguishing feature of all Porsche GTS models. Chassis lowering by 15 millimetres, the 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin-gloss black, the red brake calipers and the trim strips in high-gloss black also emphasise the high-performance appearance. High-quality materials such as Alcantara on the seat center panels, the center console armrests and door panels as well as brushed aluminum make it possible to also see and feel the sporty and elegant characteristics of the Macan GTS in the interior.
