Interview withFashion designer Michalis Stylianoudes

I met with one of the rising Cypriot fashion designers Michalis Stylianoudes for an exclusive interview! Michalis whom also recently showcased his clothing line during Cyprus Fashion Days of his Autumn 2012-2013 collection, tells us about his creations, his world of fashion and much more…

SJ: So Michali tell us about how you started everything off, what has always been your inspiration for your designs?

MS: I don’t have something specific each time im due to start a new collection. But I always start my collections with a technique that is called moullage, you can do either one off pieces but you can also produce them. Its very relaxing and creative to work like that,it gives you a good brainstorming for sketching as well. Along with that music comes and it can be very helpful, at least for me.

SJ: You were a sensation at this years Cyprus Fashion Days and I’m positive this has built up a number of admirers of your work, though Michali who do particularly admire in the world of Fashion?

MS: Fashion is a team work.. the outcome of what you see on the runways is a result of a big team of designers and people that are working on each collection

SJ: How would you describe for us on what fashion means to you?

MS: when I started sketching back in the 1994 I used to say that fashion design is my hobby… and I end up turning my hobby in to a “job”. fashion design means everything to me

SJ: I’m positive that your feelings for fashion are also very supportive to the actual industry, the fact that your also currently teaching at an institution called STUDIO 8 for students who want to make it as fashion designers, what aspects do your classes cover in order to begin a career in fashion and design?

MS: Firstly, I am very pleased and glad to be part of Studio 8’s team. Studio 8 offers a range of Art & Design programs in an ideal and modern designed space in the heart of Limassol. Fashion design classes principally address students who wish to proceed in to higher education in the field of Fashion, but also adults who are fascinated by the world of fashion and would like a taste of it. Through our programme, students are given the opportunity to be introduced to the first steps of a fashion designer by learning he History of Fashion, figure drawing, colouring techniques, the principles of how you can built a complete collection, Moullage and 3D practice on mannequins

SJ: Congratulations it is amazing to have the ability to share your knowledge it is very rare that a deisgner himself will take the time to tutor other hopeful designers, we are also very keen to know a few things about yourself Michali like how would you define your personal Stlye?

MS: It’s very strict, geometric and always had a small influence from Japanese culture

SJ: Lastly please tell us what are some of your fashion goals for the future?

MS: i would love to see my collections on the runways of Paris, Tokyo and London fashion week and go global sales wise.

Special thanks to fashion designer Michalis Stylianoudes for taking time for this interview and we wish him a never ending success!
