June 12th and 13th were highly significant days in the career of pianist Tatiana Stupak. First, Telethon’s ‘City Under the Stars’ concert took place at the Presidential Palace, which she had helped to arrange. Funds were raised for the Institute of Neurology & Genetics.
Before the evening’s music began, President Anastasiades presented Stupak with Telethon’s award, in recognition of her considerable charitable work, for having organised the music for several fund-raising concerts.
She opened the concert with three solos: Prokofiev’s ‘Mercutio’, Limassol composer David Pentecost’s Nocturne, Op.18, and Chopin’s Ballade No.1. Then followed a series of works performed by friends of Stupak, sopranos Tatiana Kokoreva and Ester Ustaeva.
Next day, she again played the same three piano solo works, as well as accompanying other musicians, at her fourth annual birthday charity concert, which took place at Limassol’s theatre in the Municipal Gardens, with Nicos Nicolaides, Mayor of Limassol, in attendance.
The concert opened with the first of three brief ballet performances by two brilliant young students from Vania Vrondi’s Russian Professional Art School: Pava Voinovic & Yaroslava Dudkina.
Four students from the Tatiana Stupak School of Music: Rita Losikova, Renat Maksjutov, Katya Radaeva and Daniil Staroselski played solo classical works on piano and violin.
Singers Tatiana Kokoreva and Anastasia Maximova, sang the famous Flower Duet, and the Cat Duet, and also solos, accompanied by Stupak.
Violinist Olivera Rialas played ‘Czardas’ and ‘Salut d’Amour’. She and Stupak were joined by young gymnasts from Limassol’s Onisillos Rhythmic Gymnastics, who added brilliance of colour and movement to the music.
Baritone Alexander Lebedev and contralto Kristina Kiseleva sang mid 20th century pop songs. Oboist Anastasia Bulaeva was accompanied by Stupak in two works. Astor Piazzolla’s music was enhanced by two tango dancers Vasilis Panousis & Maria Constantinou.
