BY ARTIST MARIA IGNATIOU-SHIAKALLI

The 10th Cyprus Business Woman of the Year Award, held at the Hilton Hotel, Nicosia on Friday 22 April was won by Amani Vernescu. The 10th Anniversary was marked by introducing the new branding of “Boudicca”, represented by Model Carleen Simon and the limited edition Fikardos wine label themed “Boudicca”.

The glittering cocktail reception was attended by CEO’s of top companies, dignitaries and media personalities across the Greek and English sectors.

Founded by Janice Ruffle, the prestigious awards were established to give a platform of recognition for business women and entrepreneurs across Cyprus. Janice commented “Each year, the respected panel of judges headed by Olga Balakleets, state how difficult it is to find just one winner.  Each woman is essentially a winner in so many differing ways.”

The evening began with a networking, opening reception to the wonderful music of the PapaGeorgio Trio before moving to the presentation, this year presented by Saskia Constantinou, CEO of Apollon International Connections and Constantinos Shiakallis, CEO of Kivotos Luxury Lifestyle.

Saskia, in her speech highlighted the importance of saying thank you in the corporate world and how her win in 2010 and 2014 gave her courage to continue moving forward. She further emphasised and encouraged other CEO’s and management to show appreciation towards their staff. Likening a good business to a well-designed ship, Saskia explained how captains are able to improvise and lead their diverse teams to complement one another.

The winner was Amani Vernescu of Quality Focus with second place going to Jean Ginn of Aphrodite’s Rock Brewing Company. Amani stated “In such a competitive industry, it is truly an honour to receive such a prestigious award that has a significant impact as an independent affirmation of the merits of Quality Focus services, which has served as a market differentiator over the years. This award has undoubtedly raised the bar for my vision and challenges my ongoing efforts in professional and personal growth.”

Despina Panayiotou-Theodosiou of Tototheo Group of Companies, 2015 winner delivered an inspiring speech in support of female entrepreneurs and referred compassionately to “her winning year”.

Following the prize presentations, there was a further opportunity for networking with delicious canapés and beverages sponsored by French Depot supervised by Hillar Hunt CEO of Cyprus Food & Wine Club.

Janice Ruffle commented “Once again, we have highlighted the exceptional work done by women across the island and are most grateful to our main sponsors and supporters Kivotos Luxury Lifestyle Event Stylists, Fiduciana Trust (Cyprus) Ltd, RCB Bank Ltd and Tototheo Group of Companies, without whose support, this event would not be possible.

An impressive fine art piece specially painted by Maria Ignatiou-Shiakalli is presented to the 1st prize winner each year. Maria’s commitment to the award event has been long-standing and overwhelming. Neophytou Jewellery presented to each finalist a specially branded silver pin and Blossom_Club arranged beautiful floral arrangements for each of them.
